About Kim

Kim Fellner considers herself lucky on at least three counts: She was born into a nifty family; she came of age in the Sixties; and, contrary to all probabilities, she married the right guy. Her parents provided good genes, great values, fabulous siblings, and a penchant for chocolate. The Sixties provided

a passion for social justice, wonderful friends, an eccentric fashion style, and an enduring soundtrack. And her husband Alec Dubro provides the mutual support, intelligence, and humor to make the best of a messed-up world.

Kim has devoted her working life to progressive activism. She is currently the development director for Working America, an innovative worker formation for those who do not have union representation on the job. Her past work includes 17 years in the labor movement as: organizing propagandist for the Service Employees International Union; information director for the Screen Actors Guild during the lively presidency of Edward Asner; and executive director of the National Writers Union. She was also founding director of the National Organizers Alliance.

During and in between these gigs, she’s taken time to reflect and write about the issues that obsess her – mostly trying to reconcile the personal and organizational contradictions between what we profess, and what we actually do. She tries to respect the subjects without taking herself too seriously.

She recently completed her first book, Wrestling With Starbucks: Conscience, Capital, Cappuccino (Rutgers, 2008). She loves New York City and California and lives in Washington, DC.
